Tigray Crisis:

The Tigray Crisis is an ongoing armed conflict that began around November 2020. The Tigray region is the northernmost region of Ethiopia, which is located on the Horn of Africa. The conflict began when the TPLF (Tigray People’s Liberation Front) party refused to join the new Prosperity Party, which was formed when ethnic and regional parties combined. The TPLF accused Aiby Ahmed, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, of being an illegitimate ruler after he postponed the elections twice. The TPLF declared the Ethiopian government illegal, and fighting broke out quickly. On November 4, the TPLF attacked the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) headquarters, thus resulting in a revolt of the ENDF as they later attacked the Tigray region. The war has broken out between the Tigray people and those who support Aiby Ahmed’s reign. Since then, there has been constant armed violence as this conflict grew into a genocide.
People in the Ethiopian region of Tigray are in a state of crisis. Due to the conflict between the regional and federal level government, approximately one to two million people have been displaced from their homes. Ethiopian refugees have tried to flee, in numbers as great as 60,000, to nations like Sudan. Unfortunately, the refugee camps are gradually starting to get overloaded with the influx of people, and the future is uncertain for new arrivals. In addition to the current crisis, flooding, droughts, and locusts have been widespread problems throughout the country. As of now, 600,000 people do not have access to crucial humanitarian services which are desperately needed.
Moreover, problems that have been plaguing the country for many years now are strengthening again, from the rise of instability all around Ethiopia. These are issues like public killings, massacres, rape and many unspeakable war crimes.
