Earthquakes in China

On September 14, the Sichuan Province of China experienced an earthquake in the early hours of Thursday morning. Estimated by Chinese officials to have a magnitude of 6.0, while the USGS estimates it at 5.4, both departments can agree that it left a devastating mark on the people.

One area in particular affected by the earthquake was Luxian County, located southwest of Chongqing. The county alone reported two dead, 53 injured, and more than 20 houses collapsed. The pictures also reveal the impact the earthquake caused in the regions. One, in particular, was a picture taken from Luzhou, showing walls and parts of businesses collapsed with rocks and objects all over the street. In the region of Luzhou, two were reported dead and more than a dozen injured.

All across China, officials deployed their emergency units to help and find those affected by the damage. The action was necessary as many were buried under the rubble.

Officials and reporters have done a tremendous job dealing with the situation. Networks have informed citizens on the issue and have told them to stay home and stay safe. The use of social media has been of great help as they spread awareness around the incident. One example, in particular, is an image reflecting fallen trees and collapsed houses and buildings, reflecting emergency personnel such as firefighters urgently fighting to find people and save lives.

Many, during the occurrence, flashed back to the 2008 Sichuan Earthquake, which ended up killing and leaving more than 80,000 just from that accident alone. With that in mind, residents were concerned as many of the buildings were poorly built and in terrible condition. A prime example is schools that were poorly constructed, leading to thousands of casualties.

With that in mind, I ask that you please consider donating to this cause to help the families and individuals suffering through this event. Whatever the help or the amount may be, anything will help the Chinese province fight through the impact of such an event. If this is something you consider, I ask that you go to the International Medical Corps website where you can give and donate which would mean the world for millions.
