Hurricane Ida was detected hitting the state of Louisiana with 150 MPH winds on August 30, making it the second most destructive hurricane in Louisiana's history following Hurricane Katrina. The storm originated as a tropical depression that later developed into a tropical storm, and days after became a hurricane.
The category four hurricane and its consequences have been horrendous as millions across the state seek urgent relief and struggle for survival. According to officials, 16 casualties have been accounted for, and the injury tally surges daily. Property damages and wreckages have affected virtually every corner of the area as well.
One example is the case of Rene Gregorie, whose house was afflicted with shattered windows, water overflow, and even splintered trees due to Ida. On top of that, she also suffered from a broken wrist and COVID-19. Even her dog required a $3,000 surgery.
Another issue impacting the state is the level of devastation in correlation to the people. The majority of the area has been destroyed, so officials have little to no access to properties and individuals. High-priority sites, like hospitals, emergency departments, supermarkets, have ceased operation.
Last but not least, energy and power units have, for the most part, died, leaving millions with no power, heat, energy, nor even water. Millions have been forcefully evacuated and have nowhere to go. Considering this, consider donating to the Hurricane Relief and Recover fund sponsored by the Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana as it would mean a lot to the millions that need your help.
