Typhoon in Philippines

The first super typhoon of 2021 brushed by the Philippines between April 14-22. Typhoon Surigae had peak winds as high as 190 mph. It made history as the strongest tropical cyclone on record during April in the Northern Hemisphere. Surigae moved closely along the eastern coast of the Philippines, affecting Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, and more cities. The cities experienced heavy rainfall, rough surf, and gusty winds. The typhoon threatened landslides and mudslides throughout many areas.

There was much significant damage, including flooding, power outages, and homes being entirely destroyed. Almost 100,000 people were evacuated to escape the typhoon, but as of now, one person has been killed and another is missing. Officials said that a man from the Southern Leyte province was confirmed dead after he was hit by a falling tree. Many people escaped in ferries, but due to the traffic, many ferries got stuck in the water. With the large number of people packed on these boats, people were vulnerable to COVID-19.
