Wildfires North of Mediterranean

North of the Mediterranean, nations such as Greece and Turkey have experienced massive wildfires that have shaken their people to the bones. In the Turkish territory, the fires consumed beaches and forests, leaving many with no choice but to abandon their belongings. Within the victims was Selcuk Sanl, whose life turned upside-down following the devastating fires that razed his home.

Over the past several days, government officials and leaders have developed strategies to tackle the wildfires and aid households affected by them. Reports broadcast over 10,000 people evacuated, eight casualties, and at least 27 hospitalizations requiring medical treatment. Various official orders have called for tourists and residents to evacuate their residences. Thousands of individuals have fled through both land and sea, seeking to escape the 130+ fires that have progressed throughout Turkey alone and the 100+ degree Fahrenheit days. The deployment of more than 1000 firefighters, planes, helicopters, and over 5000 personnel, was ordered to fight the fires.

The effects and disruptions worsen as the days pass. For example, the Village of Cokertme was described as hell, having thousands evacuate through boats and cars. The town of Turunç also confronted an evacuation order with hundreds carrying suitcases after the rising wildfires. Lastly, police and emergency personnel had to evacuate the village of Hisaronu, knocking on doors as conditions exacerbated. Countless farms and businesses have collapsed due to the fumes and evacuations as well. Locals dubbed the circumstances as an apocalypse as the nation prepares for what is left to come.

The precise root of the fires remains unclear. Some claim that individuals have been setting fires in several regions across the nations; others argue that climate change is the cause. Many also maintain that hot air from North Africa has influenced the European heatwave. Though the origin of the wildfires is ambiguous, the repercussions are irrefutable. Millions of locals and families are left with little to nothing, seeking help with no food, water, nor shelter. Please consider heading over to TpFund.org and donating to this cause. Whether it’s a few bucks or a little more, anything will be helpful to getting the resources these suffering families need to get back on their feet.
